Louis Vuitton: Between past and future

27.02.2018

Spring/summer ’18 collection at a glance

For the second time in a row, creative director Nicolas Ghesquière showed the latest collection for Louis Vuitton in one of the most famous landmarks of the French capital: the Louvre. Yet his inspiration came from New York’s Metropolitan Museum of Art, whose collection of 18th-century costumes he has skilfully translated into future styles.

The product of this creative time travelling is brocade tops in metallic shades worn over patent leather trousers and silk shorts. Dresses with the typical cut of the age are reproduced by Gehsquière in black leather. He also sent his models down the catwalk in richly embroidered tops and blouses with bishop sleeves. Combined with sporty sneakers: a masterful mismatch. And by doing so, the creative director has proven that it is indeed possible to integrate costume-like clothing into your everyday wardrobe.
