The Seitzergasse in Vienna’s first district once again invited passers-by to have a picnic and hang out with friends and family.

BRING YOUR OWN or PICK UP YOUR PICNIC basket: right around the corner you could buy baskets for two people, prepared with a variety of fillings by bakeries and restaurants as well as the Café Am Hof at the Park Hyatt Vienna. Drinks were again served at the Meinl pop-up bar in the Tuchlaubenhof and the Veuve Clicquot truck on Seitzergasse, while fun was provided by a foosball table and entertainment by live acts and DJs hosted by 98.3 Superfly. New this time: a painting corner for children by Plastic House and SchleckDruff, the hip cocktail ice lollies from Berlin. A lawn, cushions, blankets, cutlery, pre-filled baskets – everything was available on site. #picnicinthecity

For those who missed the second picnic in the Seitzergasse, we kept an eye on what happened behind the scenes:

  • Starting at 6 a.m. on the Saturday, it took seven hours to set up the picnic site.
  • 550 square metres of turf were unfurled to create the ultimate urban picnic atmosphere, and 150 cushions and blankets were spread out to guarantee luxury lounging.
  • In the brilliant sunshine, the thermometer climbed to 30 degrees over the course of the Saturday.
  • Café Am Hof, Meinl am Graben, Schwarzes Kameel, Fabios, Aida and Mann provided 10 different picnic basket fillings.
  • Guests had a choice: bring their own basket or buy a pre-prepared one on-site. Over 200 pre-prepared baskets were emptied.
  • Beats were delivered by live acts like guitarist Lukas Krenn, cellist ANgel Tarpov, singer Emily Kolbert, and Kathy Fields enchanted her audience with her ukulele and singing. Once again, the DJs hosted by 98.3 Superfly laid down some relaxed background music.
  • Drinks were served in the Meinl pop-up bar in the Tuchlaubenhof and at the Veuve Clicquot truck in the Seitzergasse.
  • Welcome cooling drinks were supplied by the hip Berlin label SchleckDruff with their frozen cocktail lollies.
  • In the painting corner – designed in a range of bright colours by Plastic House – picnicking children could give free rein to their creativity.
  • It took five hours to dismantle the picnic scenery on the Sunday.
