It looks like it’s going to be another hot summer in Vienna. So here’s a selection of three dates for your diary – and what to wear to each event.
Ice Cream Festival
There’s now a festival to celebrate one of the nicest treats in the world: ice cream! On 6th and 7th August, Vienna’s Burggarten will be taken over by gelato, and the city’s best ice cream parlours will compete to find out who really is number one.
6th–7th August, 11 a.m.–7 p.m.
(in case of bad weather: 13th–14th August)
What began as a small get-together after exhibition openings has now become a fixture of summery Wednesdays. Which is when the bastion of the Albertina in Vienna’s city centre is transformed into the most sought-after location for (wannabe) art enthusiasts. The music, mostly electronic, changes every week – but always features the best DJs the city has to offer.
every Wednesday, 6–11 p.m.
Das Techno Cafe
This classic Viennese open-air party has now been going for some 20 years – always on a Tuesday, always in Vienna’s most beautiful pub garden. Perfect for an after-work drink as well as for those who want to stay longer. We love the fact that you can now enjoy an excellent barbecue alongside the traditional cocktails at the Volksgarten Pavillon.
every Tuesday from 6 p.m. until late
