Portrait. Salma Hayek is a Hollywood star, activist and family person. She feels just as at home in Hollywood as on catwalks around the world. Salma Hayek achieved her acting breakthrough as the lead in the Mexican telenovela “Teresa”. Later she acted in films such as “Desperado” and “From Dusk Till Dawn” alongside Antonio Banderas and George Clooney. Mexican-born Hayek made it onto Hollywood’s A-list at the latest after her portrayal of the painter Frida Kahlo, for which she received both an Oscar and a Golden Globe nomination in 2003.
Three facts about Salma Hayek:
- A mere 1.57 m tall, the little bundle of energy is the new face of the Milanese jewellery maker Pomellato. In that role she follows both her acting colleague Tilda Swinton and Pomellato’s partiality for strong personalities. This is incidentally not the first time that Hayek and Pomellato have cooperated with one another. Back in the mid-1990s, they worked together on a charity campaign to build a hospital in Afghanistan.
- The man by her side is François-Henri Pinault – one of the most important players on the international fashion scene. Pinault is the CEO of the French fashion and accessories corporation Kering, which owns labels such as Gucci, Saint Laurent, Alexander McQueen…and Pomellato. Together they have a daughter, Valentina Paloma.
- Hayek champions women’s rights and is also an active film producer. In the animated film “The Prophet” (in cinemas in the US in early August), the busy bee could let all of these sides to her personality run free: she was producer, lent her voice to the main female character and gave young cinemagoers an understanding of freedom and humanity.
