Pomellato is 50 – and it is celebrating with a unique collection! To reassert its rebellious pioneering spirit, the brand that once invented prêt-à-porter jewellery has turned its attention to the “new gemstones”. For these half-centenary pieces, creative director Vicenzo Castaldo retrieved some genuine rarities from the Pomellato archive. For each piece of jewellery he has to find the best cut for each stone. At the point where the colour density and veining come into their own as a small painting, a narrative, a dream. “It was a journey to the centre of the earth,” according to Castaldo. The designs were left to the creativeness of nature.
Due to their beauty and rarity, such “semi-precious stones” are now considered valuable. They are associated with strength, energy and magic. When combined with Pomellato’s appreciation of organic, irregular forms, they can become small works of art. Like each dendritic agate in the Stormy Weather Ring, whose design is reminiscent of a winter landscape with trees. The centre of the Pink Hawaiian shows a rhodochrosite whose minute crystals are reminiscent of a Pacific sunrise. The Secret Garden Ring made from zoisite with ruby combines red with green, fire with earth, surrendering themselves to love in a kind of hypnotic dance. The 50 anniversary pieces are as good as sold out. Rings, earrings and pendants from the Ritratto collection featuring smoky, rose and milky quartz, topaz and amethyst are available in the boutique.
