Panama hat, pocket square, bow tie and double-breasted suit. Perfectly dressed gentlemen ranging from dandy to high-end hipster populate the grounds of Florence’s city fortress Fortezza da Basso during Pitti Uomo, the world’s most important male fashion fair.
See and be seen, while nonchalantly sauntering through the city of the Medicis. That’s how to flaunt your street style during the fair where 1,220 brands from around the world – including Etro, Brunello Cucinelli, Church’s and Brioni – present their collections for the next summer season to 30,000 visitors and buyers.
The ensembles worn by the world’s fashion-conscious men are at least as interesting as the fashion houses’ new trends, proving that male fashionistas are no less stylish than their female counterparts.
Suits are pretty much a must, and headwear is practically obligatory. To look even better on the fashion photographers’ shots, you’re advised to colour-coordinate your outfit with your partner. Double-breasted suits with gold buttons and stripy ties make an even better impression when sported as a pair.
If you don’t want to look too buttoned up, make sure you wear white. Whether it’s in the form of a T-shirt paired with a colourful suit jacket or as an unbuttoned shirt worn under braces. Or go casual with a neckerchief.
Accessories like lapel pins are worn with skill. Another must-have among many visitors: beards and tattoos, which are even easier to show off now that it’s summer. And it’s good training for summer 2018.
