Haute couture is considered the most prestigious field of fashion, in which the finest fabrics are transformed using the most exceptional needlework. Many myths surround this microcosm of the fashion industry in which only the best of the best will suffice and whose creations bear a correspondingly hefty price tag. The fact of the matter is that maisons like Valentino and Armani Privé make fashion dreams come true twice a year.
It’s no surprise in this high art of dressmaking that admission to the Parisian Chambre Syndicale de la Haute Couture is by invitation only. In this elite world, it’s perfectly acceptable for a dress to cost a six-figure sum – and the client base is accordingly limited to just a handful of extremely affluent ladies.
This time around maestro Giorgio Armani has everything from a power suit to an evening gown to offer in his Privé collection. Stars like Sophia Loren, Naomi Watts and Kate Winslet had a close look at each and every item from the front row in Paris.
At Valentino the colour red is of course an absolute must and it made an appearance in a number of different ensembles. The collection also impressed us with its flamboyant floral embroideries and decorations. And on this occasion designer Pierpaolo Piccioli even presented daywear with trousers and capes on the couture catwalk.
