The times when you could only choose between a couple of shades of red are long gone. Nowadays when it comes to nails, you need a steady hand and a good eye. Here are the two most important nail varnish trends this spring.
Delicate pastel shades are definitely in this year. At Lancome this season’s colours are a bluish pink called Rose Haussmann, the apricot milkshake Corail de Ville, the sweet lemon yellow Laune Grands Boulevards and the Bleu Ciel Parisien. Of course, pale pink is also the basis for the evergreen Nude, which can be spotted on the catwalk season after season. Those who like strong colours needn’t despair: there is a chocolate brown at Sally Hansen, and in any case, every label’s range includes vibrant shades of red. Chanel is marching to a slightly different tune: mornings in California were the inspiration behind the colours of its spring collection, L.A. Sunrise. So it includes a vibrant blue that is unusual for nail polish.
The nail specialists really did have their hands full at the latest spring collection fashion shows, drawing linear patterns on the models’ nails. Essential tools (besides at least two shades of nail polish): nail pens (in case the brush is too thick) and tapes (to mark of straight lines) – otherwise the effect will be ruined. If you find lines and checks too strict, then follow in the footprints of Rebecca Minkoff. Her pastel tones were beautifully blurred.
