The chauffeur steers the black SUV past Lech, up the tight, snow-covered curves to 1,750 metres above sea level, to the address Oberlech 50. When you enter the garage, you enter a different world. A luxury dreamworld.
Where the Gasthof Schlössle once stood, the Chalet N now sits on its throne: an elegant guest house that has even been awarded six stars. And rightly so, because this is no conventional hotel, with its spectacular view of the Arlberg massif. There are seven suites here – even a children’s suite with fitted bunk beds, piles of toys, a bathroom with Bulgari Kids products and an adjoining bedroom for their nanny. Every “room” has its own balcony opening on to a view down to the valley, to Lech, and across to the Rüfikopf mountain. There’s no reception here. It’s not necessary: you check in exclusively as a group or a family. Which means you and your 24 guests then have all 3,800 square metres to yourselves.
And to ensure that every guest’s every wish is immediately granted, 24 people are on call around the clock in the chalet. From the private butler to the chambermaid, from the chauffeur to the Thai masseuse, from the skiing instructor to the beautician. A star-winning chef serves delicious meals in the chalet’s own Walser-Stüberl or in the fine dining room – hot tip: the fondue. The sommelier presents suitable wine accompaniments from the impressive wine cellar, which boasts a whole host of Chateau Margaux and Chateau Petrus. While bottles like these are billed separately, the champagne is on the house. Or at least, the own label Laurent Perrier is. Also included are lift passes, transfer, breakfast, lunch, dinner and first-flush teas by the fireplace between meals. Even the list of hotel facilities sounds like something from a fairy tale: home cinema, in-house library, pool table in a dedicated room, ice bar on the terrace.
Between the lounge and the wine cellar you’ll find the spa. 1,000 square metres for an indoor pool, relaxation area, fitness centre, hairdresser, hay sauna, Finnish sauna, salt-cave steam bath, outdoor Jacuzzi. Products by British organic cosmetics label Ila are used for spa treatments. And those who find the very concept of relaxation alien and who simply aren’t able to switch off will be pleased to hear that Chalet N also has a fully equipped office. But of course.
