Fun is the aim of the game at the shows of Pitti Bimbo, the largest kids’ fashion fair in the world. Elegance, embellishments galore and finery from head to foot are all writ large this coming autumn.
Mini-me with irony
Indispensable: headwear. Next autumn, no small star will leave the house without a hat, beanie or headdress. Everything imaginable made an appearance, from floral bouquet to enormous earmuffs. The resemblance between the latter, seen at Spanish label Y-Clu’, and oversized adult headphones is no coincidence, skilfully making good-humoured fun of the infantilized appearance of technology-obsessed adults on public transport.
Colour blocks and geometric patterns are hotly sought after at Marni and Il Gufo. Bomber jackets, parkas and biker jackets are must-haves this autumn.
Princess and young gentleman
Princes and princesses are always en vogue. This time, the trend has taken a vintage turn, ranging from the early 1920s to the late ’80s. Silk blouses and party dresses with lots of tulle, ruches, lace, embroidery and floral appliqué – as at Simonetta – are back with a vengeance for princesses next autumn. Young gentlemen can look forward to donning an oversized tie – in a bedroom near you this fall: boys everywhere found rummaging around in their dads’ wardrobes, on the hunt for neat neckwear.
