A bag is at a woman’s side more often than her man is. It stows away necessities and secrets. She looks after it as well as she would look after small children. It’s hardly surprising that women make such a big deal of their bags.
Their shape, size and colour have to suit the wearer. We should be able to combine them with as many outfits as possible. Everything that we need during the day has to fit into them. They should also be practical. The patterns and colours have to outlive short-lived trends. An entire city of women should not wear the same style of bag. Bags should not have any endangered animals on their conscience. When empty, they should weigh no more than a feather. Ideally, there should be photos of celebs wearing them. Phew, that doesn’t really make the decision-making process any easier. We have chosen a few models from the current collections that fit all those criteria. They are the my-bag-is-my-best-friend-cuddly-designs by Brunello Cucinelli, vanity case bags by Louis Vuitton, drawstring handbags by Etro and Saint Laurent and the inside-out bag by Prada, as seen in the hand of Cate Blanchett. Probably the only thing –alongside perfumes and sunglasses – that directly connects us to the actor.
