Italian elegance, classic and contemporary in equal measure. That’s what everyone knows about the longstanding company that is Prada. Founded in Milan in 1913 as a leather manufactory by the brothers Mario and Martino Prada, it was passed on to their granddaughter and current designer Miuccia Prada and her siblings in 1987.
Although Prada has since become a global luxury brand, Miuccia Prada still relies on that “Made in Italy” label and wants to foreground not just Prada’s exclusive character but also its craft with made-to-order services and individual creations. This service is now being offered in 50 stores around the world – of course including Vienna – with special VIP rooms that guarantee an intimate atmosphere. Here you will be measured and will discuss the customization options.
You really are spoilt for choice. For coats, suits and shirts there is a total of over 300 materials to choose from, including exclusive patterns from the archives. You can opt for various cuts and styles as well as the exact number of buttons and the type of collar.
Once all the decisions have been made, you’ll need some patience: experienced tailors in the Italian ateliers have to complete hundreds of individual tasks for each piece. Shirts are ready in about four weeks, suits and coats need an average of five weeks.
The craftsmanship, the passion, the perfectionism, the company values: those are the essential criteria to make a sought-after brand. Something that you can best sense when you’re surrounded by the goings-on in the heart of the company. We have been permitted to visit the studios of the labels in the Goldenes Quartier and look over the shoulders of the creative minds who work there.
