Since 1993, Miu Miu – the label’s name comes from designer Miuccia Prada’s nickname – has made a name for itself as Prada’s experimental counterpart. The brand has also broken new ground with the Miu Lady bag. An ornately rhinestone-studded belt buckle that was originally envisaged for bracelets and earrings now adorns the cult bag.
Five hours of handiwork
The Miu Lady Bag is made of the finest calf or Madras leather, which comes from the southeast Indian city of Chennai (formerly known as Madras), a centre for goatskin tanning. This leather is particularly well suitable because it is robust and has the right grain.
It takes about five hours for the craftspeople to finish the bag. The six pieces of leather that form the body of the bag are sewn together by hand. The inner lining is made of suede and ensures a luxurious finish.
Something for everyone: Miu Lady Bag
The Miu Lady Bag comes is a wide range of variations, such as a shoulder bag, handbag or shopper. It’s also available in lots of different colours and materials – including check, denim and exotic leather. The clasps, ornately adorned with rhinestones by hand, are likewise offered in various colours. 184 different crystals and beads are available to choose from and are applied to the bag one by one.
The craftsmanship, the passion, the perfectionism, the company values: those are the essential criteria to make a sought-after brand. Something that you can best sense when you’re surrounded by the goings-on in the heart of the company. We have been permitted to visit the studios of the labels in the Goldenes Quartier and look over the shoulders of the creatives who work there.
