Autumn/Winter ’17 Collection at a Glance
The autumn/winter collection was revealed in the sculpture hall of the Louvre – a first. Sending a signal about the huge importance of fashion – and Louis Vuitton in particular – in Paris. Using the museum as the show’s location was the first statement: everyone is welcome here. Then, on the catwalk, creative director Nicolas Ghesquière mixed a widely diverse range of models – just like every other day in the Louvre: everyone can wear this.
Tearing down borders is his main theme this year. These are the looks of modern nomads. Ghesquière blends the masculine with feminine feathers and silk. He allows us to pair chunky shoes with delicate dresses. Daywear mingles with eveningwear. Here too, he knows no limits. So we see American sportswear with Slav features and urban classics like suits with a hint of folklore. He uses highly polished leather, fur, a wool mix that imitates denim.
