Otherworldly: Fashion from another planet

20160507
Unwearable, subversive, radically post-human. The coffee-table book Otherworldly collects together avant-garde fashion, styling and fashion photography that range from the futuristic to the fetishistic and predict the future of fashion, where different rules apply than in our modern-day mainstream. It’s all about new technologies, materials, shapes and means of expression. The new fabrics and fusing forms have long been part of our reality. But fashion designers take those ideas to the extreme, experimenting with the mutated, the strange and the distorted as an extension of the body. The works collated here show the creative work of established as well as up-and-coming designers, from Alexander McQueen and Martin Margiela to Iris van Herpen and Marina Hoermanseder, whose ideas go far beyond the notion of fashion as something practical, instead conceiving of fashion as art and as fertile ground for experimentation.
