On Uplighters and Doormats

Most apartments are perfectly pleasant. As long as they are empty. Yet as soon as we start moving our most recent bad buys from one corner of the room to another, then back again, and then turn them around, we are forced to admit that there are others who are better at this sort of thing than we are. Interior Decorator Ulrike Nachbargauer has specialized in designing shopping lists. UNA plant is someone who is good at furnishing, and she can do so with any piece of furniture and with any budget. As Markus Lederleitner is well aware. When designing Schloss Walpersdorf and Lederleitner Home in the Goldenes Quartier, he asked the Viennese architect’s advice. The result proves he was right to do so. Where would you like to have a roof over your head? In the mountains when it’s raining. The foundation of your inspiration? Chocolate and coffee. What have you done that turned out to have been built on sand? Realizing an idea with 15 architects. What fits together like chalk and cheese? Uplighters with reading lamps. Who has recently left you “holding the bag”? My sister. It had chanterelles in it. Men’s favourite home accessory? Uplighters with reading lamps. And women’s? Doormats. Who kicks at an open door in your house? Children. What drives you up the wall? Cockroaches. When do you feel centred? In nature. What do you wish you had designed? The first Porsche. Your motto? Less is more.
