The combination of Swarovski and haute couture is nothing new. Even the founder of the company, Daniel Swarovski, used to travel to Paris regularly to meet the couturiers Jeanne Lanvin and Charles Frederick Worth. Today, the company’s management – with Design Manager Nadia Swarovski – collaborates with Alexander McQueen, Hussein Chalayan and Christopher Kane. From September, French enfant terrible Jean Paul Gaultier will take over the exhibition areas of the Swarovski Stores in Vienna and Innsbruck. The designer intends to unveil his specially designed art installations in person. The Tyrolean jewellery concern’s partiality for the eccentric fashion designer began back in 2013. In his autumn/winter collection of that year, Jean Paul Gaultier applied some 1.8 million Swarovski crystals to biker jackets, cocktail dresses and high heels. At the beginning of 2015 he debuted his collection “Kaputt”. Central to the collection is an Art Deco-style stone, which he designed together with Swarovski. A further highlight in their collaboration will be revealed in the autumn of 2015.
