Whether wide or narrow, angular or round, brown or black, with a heel or tread, shoes are as varied as their wearers. But one thing applies to them all, regardless of their wearer’s taste and character: shoes must be kept clean. Shiny shoes are guaranteed to give you a groomed appearance and make a good impression. Even more importantly: shoes that are looked after regularly last much longer. The traditional British brand Church’s has 3 tips on how to do just that:
First remove the laces and put a shoe tree inside the shoe. Then remove any dirt with a large brush and some water.
Use a small brush to apply shoe cream in a circular motion. Pay special attention to areas that come under particular strain, such as the seams in the areas between the upper and the sole as well as around the eyelets and laces. Now put them to one side for at least an hour so that the cream has enough time to properly moisten the leather. Then remove the cream with a large brush.
Apply shoe wax and leave it for a while to do its job. Then use a small amount of water on a soft cloth to polish the shoe in a circular motion.
